Why is Writing Important?

Writing is an important form of communication and provides opportunities to express ideas.  Reading and writing are often discussed separately but it’s important to understand that they are interrelated. They both have a significant connection. They are both dynamic, interactive processes that construct meaning and the roles of the readers and the writers are active and recursive (Cox, 2014).  When children read, they get ideas for writing and writing clarifies understanding of what they have read (Cox, 2014).  Parents are in a position where they can encourage and support their children to develop strong writing skills. This support can help your children become better writers and become stronger readers.
